Gray Squirrels

We have a record number of Gray Squirrels at the feeders this morning. I count ten in all (and one Red Squirrel). I long ago made peace with the fact that the feeders are not solely bird feeders. Squirrels have to make a living, too. I pity people who have to try to exclude squirrels. It must be endlessly frustrating. Yes, it's expensive to feed the squirrels but, frankly, they're fun to watch, too.

Maggy's here for the weekend - and for the B&B Birthday dinner. Planning to meet her at the bus station at 1:30AM Thursday (Friday?) took the sting out of the Town Board meeting that lasted 'til midnight.

Oh --- those gray squirrels. I guess I am going to have to buy them some squirrel toys so I can be entertained. They certainally are a part of the life of these woods!

I don't mind feeding the squirrels via my bird feeders that much, although it's expensive. The main thing that bothers me is that it keeps the birds from feeding there. If the squirrels would just take a few seeds and get off, it wouldn't be so bad, but they like to sit there for the longest time and chow down, do a little sightseeing...

Also, I try to scare them away because my husband resents their being on our feeders. Our latest test is hanging the feeders on a long string that's far enough away from the trees so they can't jump down or over, and since the feeders are no longer on a pole, they can't jump or climb up. So far it's working.

From one mom to another, I'm happy for you that Maggy was able to go home for the weekend. Hope you had some warm times. All my best!
